How To Perform Drag & Drop Without Holding The Mouse Button

[Use Click Lock For Easier Computing]

Drag and Drop is easily one of the most used features in any operating system, on any device. It lets you move files from one place to another without the need for specifically copy and pasting them.

Functions like this are supposed to be fluid and fast, since they are designed specifically to shorten the time it takes for the user to perform a certain task.

Still, sometimes when you are dealing with multiple files, or a laggy system, the simple act of holding onto a mouse button while you complete the task become boring.

Thankfully, Windows has put even more workarounds in their system to help make these functions even more simpler, such as the Direct Delete feature.

In the same way, there is another feature called Click Lock, which lets you easily drag and drop your files, without holding onto the button the entire time.

To enable this feature, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open the “Control Panel” app.
  2. Open “Mouse Properties”.
  3. Move to the “Buttons” section.
  4. Click on the check box next to “Turn On Click Lock”.
  5. Apply the changes.
  6. Go to the item you want to drag.
  7. Briefly press down and hold the mouse button over the item.
  8. The item will be selected.
  9. Move your mouse to anywhere you want the file to go.
  10. Once over the chosen place, press down and hold the mouse button briefly to release the lock.
  11. You can modify the duration you need to keep the button held down.

With these simple steps, you will be able to easily drag and drop all sorts of files without having to hold onto the mouse button the entire time. Have fun.
