How To Remap The Search Key In Chromebook

[Simple Way Of Changing Key Function]

Chromebook is a very smart and capable machine for anyone who wants to replace their traditional computer with something more sleek and simple.

It offers you a simple interface that is easy to interact with and which integrates a lot of smart features into a handful of softwares.

However, just like any other machine, it too has it’s individual quirks that take some time getting used to and in the meanwhile can irritate users a lot.

Once such quirk is the fact that in the Chromebook, instead of giving you the Caps Lock function in the traditional Caps Lock button, the operating system uses it as a Search Key.

What this means is that whenever you absentmindedly press the Caps Lock button, you would automatically open up search, which can be highly disrupting if you are busy writing something important.

Thankfully for users, the Chrome OS lets you remap this key to bring back the Caps Lock function, while also giving you several other options as well.

If you want to avail these options and remap the Search Key, follow these simple steps:

  1. Open “Settings” in your Chromebook.
  2. Scroll down to the “Device” section.
  3. Click on the “Keyboard Settings” button.
  4. In the popup that opens, you will see a “Search” title.
  5. Click on the drop down menu next to the title.
  6. From the list, select the function you want to assign to the search key.
  7. Press “Ok” to save the new setting and close the Settings app.

With these steps, you will be able to remap the Search Key on your Chromebook quite easily.
