How To Toggle Between Touch Screen & Touch Pad In Chrome OS

[Use Simple Keyboard Shortcuts For Easy Shift]

In the past few years, we have seen an exponential rise in the introduction and sale of hybrid laptops. The defining feature of most of these laptops is their flexibility as well as the presence of a touchscreen.

While operating a touchscreen has never been a big deal for us, doing it on a screen as big as a laptop can still be a daunting task. This is why most laptops come with some way of switching between the touchscreen and the traditional trackpad.

A problem with this switching process is that it takes quite a few steps to actually access the controls that let you make the switch, and even after you do get access it can be a challenge to make the switch itself.

To address this issue, Chrome OS gives you the option of switching between these two modes of input, just by executing some simple keyboard shortcuts.

To enable these shortcuts, follow these simple steps:

  1. Make sure your device is on the Developer Channel.
  2. Open the Omnibox.
  3. Enter the following command – chrome://flags/#ash-debug-shortcuts
  4. You will be redirected to a controls page.
  5. Scroll down to “Debugging Keyboard Shortcuts”.
  6. Click the “Enable” button under this title.
  7. Scroll down to the bottom and click on “Restart Now”.
  8. Wait till your Chromebook restarts.
  9. Your toggle commands are now active.
  10. Press “Search+Shift+T” to toggle the touchscreen.
  11. Press “Search+shift+P” to toggle the touchpad.

With these easy steps, you will be able to activate and use keyboard commands in order to toggle between the touchscreen and the touchpad.
