One of the defining features that make Apple products stand apart from the rest of the devices is the presence of a Mute Button. In most devices, this button is used to toggle between the full volume and mute setting of the ringtone and notifications. But you can also use it for other purposes.
While it’s general use is to shut down any distractions from your device, without actually going through the distraction of unlocking your phone and changing the settings.
However, in the Ipad, you can tweak this button to become the orientation lock button.
When this special feature is active, a flick of the button lets you lock or unlock the orientation of the device, giving you the option to easily switch between landscape and portrait mode.
This comes in handy when you want to watch a movie or play a game in a specific orientation, without worrying about accidental rotation.
In order to activate this feature, you have to open the “Settings” of the device. You then go to the “General” category, where you will find the option to tweak this button under the “Use Side Switch To” title.
Here you can choose to either use this button for muting the device, or locking the screen orientation. The screen will display relevant prompts based on which option you choose, so that you can check whether the option you selected is working or not.
Now that you know how to tweak this button, you can go ahead and try it out for yourself, or you can still view these options in the control panel of your devices, the traditional way. Have fun.
