Initially launched for the Elite Controller, the button remapping feature on the Xbox is now available for the Xbox One controller too. You can follow these simple steps to remap your own controller to your personal configuration.
Go to “My Games And Apps” and select “Apps” from the menu on the left side of the screen.
Open the “Xbox Accessories” app from the screen.
Select the connected controller that you want to remap and click on “Configure”.
Select the “Button Mapping” option from the menu on the left side of the screen.
To remap a button, select the button from the first drop down menu. Then select the button you want it to act as from the “Map To” drop down menu.
You can also do this by long pressing on the button you want to change, and then tapping the button you want to change it to.
You will get a prompt to confirm your choice.
Choose from additional options to “Swap Sticks”, “Invert Axis” and “Swap Triggers” located in the left bottom corner.
When finished, select “Done”.
Try the new configuration in any game.
If not satisfied, reset your changes by going back to the “Configure” section in the “Xbox Accessories” app and selecting “Restore Defaults”.
It is important to remember, that, even though you have remapped the controller, the games have no way of recognizing that. So you will have to remember which button to press when the game gives you certain button prompts.
