iOS 10 brings with it an updated and very intelligent Photos app, which now lets you search your pictures not only by date, but also by object.
This new search mechanism works by incorporating your Contact Input along with Facial Recognition in order to figure out what the picture is all about.
Once it’s done with that, the app can then easily select pictures that fit the criteria of your search and present them to you for browsing.
While the accuracy of this feature is still under question, it is still a very powerful feature that you should definitely make use of.
In order to do so, you can follow these two different approaches.
Search By Date
This option technically cannot be considered as a new feature as even in older devices most pictures were being saved by the year, month and date of their origin. However, now you can actually search using the year and month, while the older software only let you scroll through the pictures until you found the one you were looking for. Unfortunately, in this version of this feature, you still cannot search by a specific date. Although we don’t think that’s going to be that big of a problem in the long run.
Search By Object
This option is the more advanced one of the two search criteria. Through this method, you can search through your pictures based on what object you believe is shown in them. These objects can be anything, ranging from food to birds and even tables and chairs. The accuracy of said searches depends upon the clarity of the picture as well as the algorithm itself, but it shouldn’t be too hard to weed through the few discrepancies in the results. Although, again, at this moment there is no option to correct these mistakes manually. Still, even at this current stage it is an impressive tool to use.
No matter what search option you choose, the search procedure itself isn’t that big a deal. All you need to do is:
With these simple steps, you will be able to easily search and find the exact images you are looking for, based on the nature of the object or when the image was taken. Have fun.
