How To Create An Encrypted File Container In Windows
[Secure Your Files With Bitlocker]
When it comes to make sure your files are secure on your computer, encryption is the best path to take. While Bitlocker from Windows provides you the option to encrypt entire partitions, you can also create independent file containers for such files.
These containers, or Virtual Hard Drivers are separate from your hard drive partitions, and can be moved quite easily. In order to create such drives, follow these simple steps:
Press “Windows + R” to open Run Dialog Box.
Enter diskmgmt.msc and press enter to open the Disk Management Tool.
In this tool, click on the “Action” menu button on the top left.
Click on “Create VHD”.
In the popup, select the location and size of the new drive.
Select the “Fixed Size (Recommended)” option and click “Ok”.
The new disk will appear in the Disk Management Tool window.
Right Click on it and select “Initialize Disk”.
Select the GPT (GUID Partition Table) option and then click “OK”.
Once again, right click on the drive and select “New Simple Volume”.
Select the format and name for your new drive and complete the rest of the steps.
Once done, the new drive will appear on the “Devices And Drives” section of My Computer.
Right click on the new drive and select “Turn On Bitlocker”.
Follow the BitLocker process and choose a strong password for your drive.
You VHD will now be encrypted as well.
With these easy steps, you will be able to create your own encrypted VHD which you can use anyway you like. Have fun.
